F. JONES CORNER F Jones Corner is located in the historic Farish Street District. It is listed in the National Reg- ister of Historic Places. In fact that same lo- cation started out as a Filling Station (gas station) back in the 1930’s. Back then all you had to do was to drive up and they would fill up your tank, check your oil, and wash your wind shields. During that time he worked at the Metro Center Mall in the food court. From their he worked at different restaurants such as Hal and Mals. Mr. Dillion received a culminary scholarship from the Harold T. White Scholarch Fund from Hal & Mals. It was in Culinary School where he met his business partner, Adam Hayes. Around the 1940’s the corner was turned into a juke joint. In the 1990’s - 2000’s it was a Blues venue called Fields Cafe. Every Monday night was blues night and they would block off the to party. Sherman Lee Dillion, Daniel’s father was ahuge influence on his decision to open a Blues estab- lishment. His father exposed hm to a number of blues artist over the years. The current owner is Daniel Dillion. Mr. Dillion grew up in West Jackson near the Jackson Zoo. “We operate on a ‘no black, no white’ blues premise. We don’t see color. White and Black people, all people, regardless of age and eco- nomic class come out to have a good time.” His motivation for going into business started in the Hospitality Industry when he was 15 years old 8 F.
