HEART!
T
hroughout the month of September, the
Tucson J showed our love for other non-
profits in the Tucson community. The J is a
501(c)(3) that realizes the benefit that any gift
can make. We wanted to do what we could to
show we care about our neighbors.
New members to our “State of the Heart” Community Center
were asked to which local charity they wanted to donate half
of their first month’s dues. Since it was back-to-school season,
a small committee of staff decided to select three charities
that focus on bettering the lives of children:
BENS BELLS
The mission of Ben’s Bells is to teach individuals and
communities about the positive impacts of intentional
kindness and to inspire people to practice kindness as a way
of life.
LITERACY CONNECTS
Connecting people of all ages to a world of opportunities
through literacy and creative expression.
YOUTH ON THEIR OWN
Strives to eliminate these barriers to education and empower
Arizona’s homeless youth to stay in school.
20 J LIFE
We felt the missions of these non-profit organizations
strongly aligned with our Jewish values. We fulfill
our obligation to perform “Tikkun Olam” (repairing
the world) by supporting our community and its
institutions. “Tikkun Olam” is a Jewish concept defined
by acts of kindness to perfect or repair the world. The
phrase is often used when discussing issues of social
policy, insuring a safeguard to those who may be at a
disadvantage.
If you haven’t read our service pledge in a while,
please take a look:
“We create community based on Jewish Values
by providing the highest quality programs and
services in a safe and secure environment for all
people of all ages.”
Although this can be perceived as specific to
inside the doors of The J, we are committed to our
community outside the facility as well. Tucson is
home. Tucson is OUR community.

organizations that make Tucson a better place.
