MAKING PROGRESS SARVER TENNIS CENTER Written by: Nichole Wiley, Director of Marketing, Communications & PR Progress is being made on the Sarver Tennis Center! We are excited for the first two courts to open to our members and guests on April 8th. With thanks to a generous leadership gift from the Penny and Robert Sarver Charitable Foundation and Betty Anne Sarver Family, and broad community support, we are renovating the entire tennis center. We will have the only Laykold Masters courts in Tucson. Laykold Masters is the official surface of the Miami Open. It provides force reduction and is kinder on your joints. In addition to the six new courts, we will build a 1,200 square-foot tennis center with office space, a members’ lounge and covered seating. The outdoor basketball court (now being used as a staging area for construction) will get a new surface and will be converted into a multi-sport court that can be used for youth tennis, pickleball and basketball games. New programs will of course benefit our members, but we have also intentionally designed programs to help teach tennis to underserved youth in our community. This falls directly in line with The Tucson J service pledge: We create community based on Jewish Values by providing the highest quality programs and services in a safe and secure environment for ALL people of ALL ages. Sharing our amazing facilities with kids in our community will allow us to help teach honesty and discipline through the sport of tennis. The installation is well underway! Two courts should be available for play by April 8, with the remaining courts ready on May 6. Construction of the building will start once all the necessary funds are raised. We are continuing to accept donations toward the Sarver Tennis Center renovation. Contact Caitlin Dixon at 299-3000, ext. 176 to support this project. 12 J LIFE
