Cayman Islands Network

The Cayman Islands Network was thrilled to host its largest ever Barefoot Beach BBQ on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. The signature annual event, open to both members and non-members, was attended this year by approximately sixty insolvency and restructuring professionals from the Cayman Islands, including nearly forty members, twenty-one non-members, and the Honorable Justice Ingrid Mangatal of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands.

The evening began at the Camana Bay boat dock with a sunset trip across the North Sound. The initial sprinkles of rain did not dampen spirits, which were buoyed by complimentary prosecco and beers aboard the boat. By the time the boat docked at Kaibo, the IWIRC gods had smiled and the skies had cleared. Attendees were greeted on the beach at Kaibo by a live band, a fantastic welcome cocktail, and the enticing smell of the BBQ. Over the course of the evening, attendees enjoyed delicious BBQ chicken, Cayman style fish, jerk pork, roasted vegetables, and a fantastic variety of salads. It was also a great opportunity for the immediate Past-Chair, Rebecca Hume, to introduce the attendees to their newly elected Board and Committee Directors and lay out the Network's agenda for the year. At some point between corn bread and mudslide cocktails, there was a hotly contested limbo competition on the sand. Both egos and backsides were bruised before Andrea Tam of Borelli Walsh (on secondment from Hong Kong) was crowned the winner and presented with the coveted victory prosecco. Honorable mention also goes to Joe Gaastra of EY, who was a surprisingly gifted limbo-ist notwithstanding his height.

The Beach BBQ once again proved itself to be a fantastic opening event for the Cayman Islands Network in 2018, and was a great opportunity for the Network to recruit a number of new members and set the tone for an exciting year of networking, engagement, and advancement of women in the insolvency and restructuring space in the Cayman Islands.
