Recently, the IWIRC New Jersey Network honored Karen Giannelli as the 2017 IWIRC-NJ Woman of the Year. Karen is the Chair of the Financial Restructuring & Creditors' Rights group at Gibbons P.C. and a trailblazer in our profession. After an introduction by the Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, Karen shared some poignant thoughts on her experiences and the history of bankruptcy practice in New Jersey. And to Judge Gambardella for her kind introduction. I anticipated it would be thorough – since I’ve had this experience before – and the last time, most of my speech was gutted by her remarks – so I planned for that this time, and my remarks will be brief.
As some of you know, I tried to dissuade my nominators from submitting my name – particularly some male promoters who would argue with me about why I should be the nominee. But I am happy to see two of them here tonight.
