Panel Discussion on Singapore’s DIP Financing Regime

On November 14, 2017, the Hong Kong Network presented a panel discussion on Singapore’s recently implemented framework for debtor-in-possession (“DIP”) financing, including how it can affect Hong Kong creditors, whose debtors make filings in Singapore for DIP financing. The panel, which included Mei Yen Tan (Oon & Bazul LLP), Ashley Bell (DLA Piper), David Chew (Partner and Founder, DHC Capital), Michael Philip (CarVal Investors), and Stefan White (LIM Advisors), focused on how these amendments may affect creditors and debtors in Hong Kong given foreign companies can restructure in Singapore, as well as the current and projected utility of DIP financing given the global restructuring market trends.

There was a good turnout from the banks and funds and many more, providing exciting interactions from the floor with the panel. Members and non-members enjoyed wine, refreshments and networking after the discussion. The feedback received has been positive. Thank you to DLA Piper for hosting the event.

TMA Asia Pacific Conference

The Turnaround Management Association (“TMA”) hosted an Asia Pacific conference from November 15-17, 2017 at the Renaissance Harbour View Hong Kong. IWIRC HK supported an all-female panel, speakers of which are all IWIRC HK members, featuring senior practitioners, Kathleen Berkeley (Ropes & Gray), Jacqueline Chan (Milbank), Stuti Jain (KPMG), Eloise Fardon (Stephenson Harwood), Cassandra Ho (Madison Pacific), and Joanna Charter (Clifford Chance), moderated by Joanne Collett (Walkers Global).

The IWIRC HK all-women panel offered an insightful and practical note during the first morning of the TMA Asia Pacific Conference, looking at competing interests in offshore debt restructurings based on a number of the recent high profile restructurings in the region.

Indeed, IWIRC HK has interests aligned with IWIRC International in its global initiative to encourage greater participation of women on panels. The IWIRC Hong Kong Network has very much been leading the way on this initiative and look forward to the arising opportunities for full women panels in public speaking!
