Local Veterinary Public Health Officers

The Standing Committee on One Health has generated a plan to increase the number of Local Veterinary Public Health Officers (aka LoVPHO’s) within IVSA. To help facilitate our plan, SCoH is proud to have Luke Kim, a passionate and knowledgeable committee member (IVSA South Korea), serving as the Regional Coordinator over the next year. With the help of Luke and other SCoH committee members, we hope to increase the number of LoVPHO’s in order to enhance communication between SCoH and Member Organizations of IVSA. One idea to strengthen and entice conversation between these groups, is to create a Facebook page where all LoVPHO’s can connect and exchange concepts or current projects at their respective schools. We would like to use this Facebook page as a platform for the LoVPHO’s to distribute information about One Health. We firmly believe that LoVPHO’s embody the One Health concept. Therefore, over the next year our goals are to increase the number of Public Health Officers as well as enhance communication between the officers, SCoH, and IVSA.

Veterinary Public Health Journal

This year, the Standing Committee on One Health is excited to launch a new version of the Veterinary Public Health Journal. Historically, the majority of the VPHJ’s focus has been committee activities and IVSA events. This year, we are looking to create a journal that emphasizes education and further veterinary scientific knowledge. For this reason our committee has opted to include articles written with a scientific, research or clinical base. By making this change we look forward to seeing more individuals flip through the pages of the VPHJ to see what is occurring in the world around them. This will allow people a broader understanding of Public Health in veterinary medicine. Please check out the next VPHJ issue number 5, coming out in December.
