IVSA Journals - Fall 2015 | Seite 39

The Animal Welfare Committee of the IVSA is essentially working on improving animals’ rights and their freedoms through raising awareness and conducting projects all around the world, all of which will be for better animal welfare standards.

As a first step into achieving the goals that we have for the committee, setting up the team members is a primary move before starting to work on projects.

During the past month of September we set up a structure for the committee and decided which positions we would like to have for the most efficient results. Afterwards, we had the application period running for IVSA students to take place in the committee. At the end of this stage, it has been a great success for us to have an amazing and diverse team ready and motivated for all the work coming up.

Altogether, we have managed to recruit three project managers, two educational officers, a liaison officer, an internal PR, and a local officer Coordinator for the Animal Welfare Committee.

The upcoming projects in this current stage of our work will be concentrated specifically on the creation of the animal welfare website as our priority during the next couple of months. During this time, we will be running other projects to raise awareness about animal welfare for veterinary students and people. Beginning next week, we are starting up a new idea - publishing Animal Welfare “Did You Know?” facts from all over around the world on our Facebook page.

On the other hand, our coordinator for the local officers of the Animal Welfare Committee will be inviting and motivating multiple Member Organisations from the IVSA family to contribute and have an officer within their chapter to help spread the importance of animal welfare in their faculty. This will be done through the creation of a project that will involve all IVSA chapters during the next stage of our committee work.

Our committee is also currently contributing to the Working Group on Policy Statements and Position Papers in regards to animal welfare issues within IVSA official views.

We cannot simply ignore the importance of animals and their welfare! Let us all work hard, together, and make a change!

Best regards,

Wasseem Tahboub
