INTERNSHIP & CONGRESS | 2 receptionist who introduced me to my room. But what was more interesting that when I entered the clinic, doctors were already there keeping a dog with hemorrhage after surgery- under control till the surgeon arrives and check up on the patient. While we were waiting for the surgeon, I had the chance to meet with the doctors and everyone was so nice to introduce themselves. I was very excited that I had the chance to be already involved with the work and get to learn in the first 5 minutes of my arrival. By the following day, I was happy to explore the different departments and facilities of the clinic. There were two hospitalization rooms, two surgery rooms, two examining rooms, neurology, radiology, physiotherapy and internal medicine departments. In addition, they had one MRI and an X-ray machines for imaging the patients. Some of which I didn’t had the chance to practice before. Practice in clinic During my first week of the internship, I was accompanying Doctor Aleš Tomek who is a neurologist. I learnt from him a lot on neurology, most cases where extrusion or protrusion of the intervertebral discs. He explained me all the steps, how to physically examine the patient, radiographing, treating, and sometimes I would be on the surgery needed. While my second week was for me to be enrolled in the internal medicine department alongside one of my favorite doctors in the clinic, Dr. David Hanzlíček. This field of practice I find very interesting and close to what I want to specialize and work with when I graduate. Dr. Hanzlíček was very helpful and had the method of “scratch your head” to know the answer. He explained everything and always asking questions to make me think about the answer. We used different procedures into finding the right diagnosis such as ultrasonography, endoscopy, radiography and lab samples too. There were a lot of thought-provoking cases. I was very happy in the internal medicine division that I used my time to be there alongside surgery and anesthesia during my third and fourth weeks. I am glad I was able to attend some of the surgeries that were taken place in the clinic with PhD. Michal Vlašín who was also an incredible doctor and clarified his explanations on the cases we encountered. Diversity of operations were implemented as laparotomy, neutering, and intestinal obstruction as well.
