A wedding ceremony is one of life ’ s rites of passage that celebrates and honours two people in love taking a most important step in their lives . When planning the ceremony , assume that you have no preconceived notions about what this should be like and ask yourself , what is the purpose of a wedding ceremony , what does it signify ?
A good place to start crafting your ceremony is to ask yourself : “ What do I have to be thankful for ? How will I give thanks to those things or people which I hold sacred ?” One way of giving thanks , of giving honour , is to use symbolism and metaphor . An exchange of rings is the most common symbolic gesture in a wedding ceremony . A ring is an unbroken circle made of a metal that won ’ t tarnish , representing the infinity of never ending love , vows of devotion , and a giving of one ’ s heart to the other . An exchange of gifts , such as objects you both feel are sacred which hold special personal meaning may also be a part of the ceremony . These objects may be part of a story - how they came to be owned by one of you for example : stories of love , of perseverance , of adversity and triumph . You may want to tell these stories in the ceremony which can make it even more meaningful and memorable .
