On Saturday, March 10, the Italian American St. Joseph Soci- ety will parade through the French Quarter for its 48th year. As always, we’ll be in black tuxedos, handing out lucky beans, flowers, beads and much more! Even more impressive will be the 80 plus beautiful young maids and their queen, carried by our Sicilian style floats. It’s a truly unique parade that will capture your interest and zeal for fun! Ladies and Gentlemen of the New Orleans Italian American community, we are pleased to announce that the Queen of our St. Joseph’s Parade for 2018 is Miss Giovanna Fay Cortello. Giovanna was born in New Orleans, La on March 17, 2000 to Darryl and Ellen Cortello. She was raised in Metairie, La where she still lives. She has one brother, Dominic. Giovanna’s history in our club runs deep. Her great grandfather, Joseph Cannizzaro Sr., was mem- bership chairman in the beginning years of the Italian American March- ing Club. Her grandfather, George Cortello, is a board member, past president and one of the few charter members remaining. Her father, Dar- ryl Cortello, is a board member and past president. Giovanna thoroughly enjoys spending time with her friends, shop- ping and going to lunch. She loves to invest time in her artwork, whether it’s painting in oils, acrylic or water color or sketching in pencil. She always makes time to hang out with her dogs, Luca and Evelyn. Giovanna has been riding in our parade as a maid since she was five Giovanna Fay Cortello, 2018 IAMC Queen years old. She remembers dreaming of being queen every year. She is now 17 and is a senior at Mt. Carmel Academy. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and Mt. Carmel Cubs Against Destructive Decisions. Giovanna maintains a 4.2 GPA. She plans to attend Louisiana State Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade March 18 at noon Armando Asaro, Jr., 2018 IAMC Caesar University in the fall of 2018, major- ing in pre-nursing, ultimately pursu- ing a career as a Neo-Natal Nurse Practitioner. The entire organization is proud to have Giovanna as our Queen for 2018!
