Fall Anglers Find Outstanding Bottomfish Action
BERKELEY - Fishing has been outstanding for East Bay saltwater anglers targeting bottomfish . The ocean has calmed and a sizzling lingcod bite has developed .
“ We had wide open rockfish and lingcod at the islands today . The weather has been flat calm and the lingcod bite has been insane . We ended up with 40 lings and 200 rockfish ,” Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing reported on October 19 .
The story has been much the same on the Happy Hooker .
“ Today we ran a light load to the Farallon Islands ,” reported Captain Jonathan Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfshing . “ We are getting near limits of lingcod and rockfish daily .
Inside the bay , excellent halibut fishing remains on tap . On the Happy Hooker ’ s last live bait adventure in the bay , 17 quality halibut went into the box along with a bonus striper .
The New Easy Rider is still rounding up salmon while working the north coast . On October 16 they had 9 salmon to 23 pounds for 8 anglers . On October 17 , their 11 anglers rounded up 8 kings and a 15 pound lingcod .
Sebastes Rubrivinctus , the rare flag rockfish … This saltwater enthusiast scored his flag rockfish while fishing aboard the Huli Cat on October 5 .
