Boats Go South for Wide-Open Vermilion Action

MOSS LANDING – Anglers going on bottomfish trips aboard the Kahuna enjoyed flat calm weather and excellent fishing on the latest trips along the Monterey Coast ,

On Saturday , October 10 , Carol Jones of Kahuna Sportfishing reported “ yet another beautiful day on the water with limits of rockfish and 7 lingcod ..”

On the previous day , Jones reported , “ With absolutely beautiful weather conditions , the Kahuna

The 15 anglers landed 10 copper rockfish , 6 lingcod , 5 rockfish and 135 vermilion rockfish .

On October 10 , Chris ’ Fishing Trips reported 200 rockfish and 4 lingcod for the 20 anglers on the Star of Monterey ; 210 rockfish and 1 lingcod for 21 fishermen on the Checkmate ; and 190 rockfish and 4 lingcod for the 19 anglers aboard the Caroline .

Rockfishing is also the top angling attraction off Santa Cruz . “ The weather was nice today when anglers did well near Davenport in the deep water .,” said Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine . “ The inshore area near Natural Bridges was good .”

“ The halibut are biting near Pajaro due to the squid that showed up . The white seabass fishing was slower , but a few were caught by anglers fly lining squid . The perch fishing is still great .,” he noted .

“ The salmon fishing is closed here , but Half Moon Bay anglers are catching kings on the jetty . The big bluefin tuna have been found near Point Sur down to San Luis Obispo .,” Fraser concluded .

This happy angler was drifting a live anchovy from the deck of the Happy Hooker in San Francisco Bay hoping for a halibut , when this awesome 43-pound soupfin shark came knocking .

While rockfish have been the target of Half Moon Bay bottomfish anglers this fall , there have been plenty of lingcod around to keep things very interesting .

Monster wolf eels have been showing up for bottomfish anglers outside the Golden Gate . This big eel hit the deck of the Happy Hooker on September 19 .
