Anglers Struggle for Kings , But Limits Are Possible
any anglers have struggled to catch their first salmon of the season this year on the Sacramento River , since fishing has been tough with the relatively warm water conditions . She was trolling with Chris Ditter of Head Rush Sportfishing on the river from Discovery Park to Freeport with Brad ’ s K-14 Killerfish in Rob ’ s Dragon Glow and Rotten Banana colors . Barawed had caught a salmon on a trip outside of the Golden Gate a couple of years ago , but these fish were her first river Chinooks . “ We hooked the first fish around 7:30 a . m .,” said Barawed . “ It gave a good fight - I got it near the boat quickly and then it made three runs before it was netted . The bright fish weighed 14 pounds .” The next fish hit around 8:15 a . m . “ This fish didn ’ t know it was hooked ,” she said . “ It came straight to the boat . Once it saw us , it ran out about 15 to 20 feet , jumping during the run . I then reeled it back to the boat . This fish weighed 12 pounds .” A lot of boats were fishing the river that day , but few caught fish . “ I saw only one other boat that had a salmon that day ,” said Barawed . Rob ’ s Guide Service reported salmon success on two recent trips on the Sacramento in the Capital City metropolitan area . On one trip , three anglers fishing with Reimers caught four Chinooks ranging from 14 to 21 pounds while trolling with Brad ’ s Killer Fish in Double Glow and Rob ’ s Dragon Glow colors . Gunner , an 11-year-old boy , landed two fish , his dad , Mike , bagged one salmon and Chad , Gunner ’ s uncle , landed another . On the next day , the bite slowed down when three adults and one kid ended up landing one salmon weighing 12 pounds and losing another king , said Reimers . However , cooling weather has arrived in the Sacramento area and salmon fishing is picking up . The four anglers fishing with Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motors Sports Guide Service ecaught two kings weighing 7 and 12 pounds on Monday , October 5 , reported Craig Newton of Willfish
Bait and Tackle , who landed the 12 pounder . They caught the fish while trolling with Silverton spinners from Miller Park to Sherwood Marina . “ We saw two other fish caught that day ,” said Newton .
