improvement in the trout action until the surface temperature gets into the low 60s to upper 50 ’ s . When that happens the bait will come up and so will the trout .

Bass anglers are picking up lots of small to medium size spotted bass while working main lake structure with soft plastics . The bass are holding from 15 to 40 feet deep . As with the trout action , the bassing will improve once the temperature drops and the bait moves toward the surface .

As of press time Shasta is 99 feet from maximum pool and dropping slowly . Boat launching remains easy .

TAHOE

Kokanee Fishing Is Over , But Macks & Bonus Trout Reward Anglers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - The weather is getting nice in the Tahoe Basin . The smoke that had been clogging the basin is largely gone and daytime temperatures are dipping back down into the normal range for this time of the year .

While the kokanee bite is pretty much done for the year , mackinaw are on a fall rampage and are producing limit style action daily for fish that range from 2 to 5 pounds . Bigger macks that top out over 10 are showing up too . In addition to the macks there have been some really nice rainbows and browns in the mix too .

The crews at Tahoe Sportfishing have been working the south end of the lake with great effect . Most of their trips are producing limits of macks that fall within the 3 to 8-pound size range . Minnows teamed with flashers have been the secret to their success trolled at or just above the

Striper Bite Improves !

PITTSBURG- Fishing is good in the West

Delta , but the weather has been challenging with hot temperatures and thick smoke at times . Trollers and bait anglers are nailing stripers , sturgeon anglers are finding success while working deep water .

Striper fishing is steady in the West Delta with both trollers and bait anglers scoring limits most days . Most anglers are hooking solid numbers of bass . Some of the bass being hooked are undersize , but most of them run 18

Overall trolling is out performing bait fishing simply because the water remains warm and the bass are willing to chase . Deep running Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows tipped with white or pink worms are the best offering for trollers , but shallow runners and large Rat-L- Traps are working well when you find fish in shallow water .

Bait anglers are using standard baits such as shad , sardines , bullheads , mudsuckers and live minnows .

Sturgeon action is steady for anglers in the know that are willing to invest some time and fight the wind . The diamond backs are holding in the deeper areas of Suisun Bay . Lamprey eel and fresh salmon roe are the top performing baits at this time .

For anglers looking for a more kicked back fishing experience , catfish action remains solid in the sloughs . Clams , anchovies and worms are the top tempters .

Salmon trolling has been slow , but productive . Anglers that put in their time pulling spinners have been hooking fish above Rio Vista and there have been some caught incidentally by striper trollers .
