IV: How has being an islander positively impacted how you
live your life today?
Couple:
Lauren: I am extremely proud to be an islander. Having
traveled to different parts of the world, I have become
so appreciative of the way I was raised. Having respect
for others, being compassionate, and doing what’s right
for the good of the people is just a part of who we are as
islanders. No matter how hard it might get living on the
mainland, never forget what you were taught.
IV: How has being an islander positively impacted your
partnership/marriage?
Couple:
Lauren: Growing up, there were so many couples to look to
as an example to what marriage should be. My grand-
parents taught me that married couples respect one an-
other as a person. God, your spouse, your children, and
your family come first. When you treat them with re-
spect and love one another, then everything will fall in-
to place.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
Couple: We met in Hawaii. We worked and traveled togeth-
er for about a year before anyone spoke to another.
IV: How did you know your spouse/partner was the “right”
one?
Couple: I don’t think we have enough space on the magazine
to talk about all the reasons why I knew he was the one.
But if I were to describe one, it would be that he always
knew what I wanted and what I needed before I could
even ask. He was always there for me in my time of
need. When my grandfather had passed away, he was in
Hawaii and I was in Georgia. While I waited for three
days to get my leave approved to go home, he had al-
ready jumped on a flight to meet with my mom back
home. He had never been to Guam or met my family and
yet he still went to help with the rosaries and daily
