Behind the scenes of
Victoria and Abdul
On the red carpet of the premiere for Victoria and Abdul in
Leicester Square, Eddie Izzard, who plays Victoria’s son, the Prince
of Wales, spoke to Jo Macaulay of filming on the Isle of Wight and
how much he had enjoyed working with Dame Judi Dench.
“The ‘Isle of Wightians’ (sic) were
very nice to us, I did a gig there,
for a local charity, and that was
nice, to give something back. And
Judi came to that so that was fun
for everyone,” he said, obviously
touched.

“And we were shooting at
Osborne House and that was
wonderful…We were like naughty
children a lot of the time with
people going round saying ‘Put
those booties on!’ ‘We’re not
wearing any bloody booties!’ So I
didn’t want to wear the booties.”
And on working with Dame Judi
he said: “She’s really in control of
her teenage girl which brings such
light to her part as Queen Victoria,
and with Abdul Karim she is like a
young girl in love.”
