Charity News Fund-raising from across the Island Christmas at Barton Manor Once again we have been lucky enough to be holding a Christmas Fayre in the beautiful grounds of Barton Manor, Sunday 12th November 10 – 4pm. By Karen Eeles, Challenge and Adventure The grounds are privately owned so are only open a few times a year to the general public, the Fayre will be raising money for our young people’s charity Challenge & Adventure. We will have Christmas foods, craft stall, BBQ, Bar, Tea and cakes, Chestnuts, mulled wine, live music throughout the day, dancing, snow domes and pantomime dames and a few princesses. Joining us will be Wight Ukers, Dave B, Rodney and his merry Minstrels, Vickie Clarke, Marie Smith, Lanestar School of Dance, South Wight Youth Theatre, Ventnor Theatre Group, Baileys Academy of Irish Dance, so we are set for a fun filled afternoon of entertainment. In the Poppy café they will be serving mulled cider and students from HTP Apprenticeship College will be serving and producing some wonderful cakes and food. Carriage rides around the estate will be offered, run by Windmill Carriages with their beautiful black Friesian horses. As it will be Remembrance Sunday we will be remembering at 11am with a 2 minute silence. Doors open at 10am - 4pm. If you would like more details call 01983 527026 or email Karen on karen@ challengeandadventure.org.uk Dressing for Less First established a couple of years ago to generate revenue in support of Isle of Wight Society for the Blind (IWSB), the popular charity boutique-cum-dress agency Dress for Less is preparing for expansion. Thanks to a lifetime’s experience in the fashion world, lead volunteer manager of Dress for Less, Julie Clifton, has led the boutique from strength to strength. So much so, that it has outgrown its current outlet and is moving to larger premises in St James Street, Newport on October 20. Everyone is invited along to the launch for a celebratory glass of bubbly and free-draw entry for £50 Dress for Less Gift Voucher. Says Julie: “Whilst finding some chic items to complete your Autumn/ Winter wardrobe or a new outfit for the forthcoming party season, you can feel virtuous knowing that all profits from Dress for Less support one of the Island’s oldest charities”. IWSB is the local sight loss charity, established in 1895 to serve blind and visually impaired Island residents.
