Country life Brainstorming at Naturezones I recently joined in on a brainstorming workshop, ‘Open the Door for Sustainability’ for Naturezones, run by top consultants from the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT). The day consisted of a discussion walk around the reserve, group lunch and workshop sessions that included ideas for improving facilities on the site. www. naturezones.org.uk Keep it Clean! Having thinned out a small copse and had it fenced for livestock, we recently did a litter-pick along the roadside boundary to make it safe before the cattle were allowed in to graze. To our surprise we filled sixteen bags of rubbish thrown from vehicles, 25 tyres, carpets, a bike and a tv! Please help to keep your countryside clean. Swanmore Meadow, Ryde Swanmore Meadows has had a meadow cut and coppicing. This looks quite drastic at the moment, but you will thank us next spring when the flowers re-appear. There is a new bridge over the stream and Green Gym have been working hard on the site. If you would like to know how to get involved in its restoration please contact Gift to Nature on 201563. Autumn glow Having had a gorgeous summer, with sunshine and warm days continuing into, October. We hope that this autumn will be dry and cold. If so, expect to see some wonderful autumn colours as the leaves turn to the fiery shades of yellow, orange, red and burgundy. This maple opposite St Johns Oakfield and Holy Trinity Church, at the top of East Hill has decided to start the party early! www.visitilife.com Oct/Nov 2016_MASTER NEW.indd 65 65 14/10/2016 14:38
