The Gallery represents over 80 contemporary artists and holds a new show of around 100 new paintings every four to five weeks. QUARR ABBEY HOUSES ART COLLECTION Quarr Abbey Art Gallery opened in 2010 and is located under the archway in the old stable block at Quarr Abbey. It provides a venue for all Island artists and crafts people. The annual season of exhibitions begins with March and ends with Christmas. Each exhibition is usually a week in duration with Wednesday being the changeover day. The opening hours are usually 10:30 - 4:30 and entry is always free. The work on view and for sale is very varied. Painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and ceramics predominate, but increasingly represented are workers in fabric, wood and glass, and last year Quarr welcomed our first sound artist. Br. Duncan Smith, a member of the Quarr community is in charge of the gallery and is himself a painter. His work is regularly on show in the gallery and can be viewed on the Abbey website. Forthcoming exhibitions are listed on the Abbey website under art at the abbey. www.visitilife.com Oct/Nov 2016_MASTER NEW.indd 41 41 14/10/2016 14:37
