Food and drink
Mrs Buckett’s Gold Star
Island fudge maker Paula Buckett has
been named as one of the Great Taste
stars of 2016.
Paula, who runs Mrs Bucketts Kitchen in Lake,
was awarded a Gold Star Great Taste award for her
scrumptious Mrs Bucketts Homemade Tablet Fudge.
Great Taste, the world’s most coveted blind-tasted
food awards, celebrates the very best in food and
drink, and its judges picked Paula’s sweet treat from
10,000 products that were up for consideration.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding
palates, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the
most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan
and speciality food producers.
As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable
black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a
wonderful tasting product.
Paula started making her Tablet Fudge from an old
family recipe for Christmas seven years ago, and when
relatives suggested other people would enjoy it, she
launched out as Mrs Bucketts Kitchen.
Paula also produces a range of traditional treats,
although the Tablet Fudge is the real speciality, now
boasting 12 flavours – the latest being Goddards Ale
Tablet, thanks to Goddards Brewery.”
Great Taste 2016 reached its exciting finale on
Monday September 5th, when the world of fine food
gathered at the Royal Garden Hotel in London to find
out the Golden Fork winners for each region, and the
Great Taste Supreme Champion 2016.
Quality from farm to plate
The clue is in the name when it
comes to describing Hamilton’s
Fine Foods – a successful Island
business that prides itself on
offering only the finest produce
available.
Based in Newport and with
three other branches in Dodnor,
Cowes and Wootton, this family
enterprise headed by Andy
Gustar is much more than just a
traditional butcher’s shop.
Whilst it offers all the best
elements of an old-fashioned
butcher’s counter – including
personal service, expert
preparation and advice on
cooking – Hamilton’s Fine Foods
goes much further to please the
customer.
This includes an offering of over
20 different recipes of traditional
hand-made sausages along with
its very popular dry-cured bacon
made from local free-range pork,
plus its own hardwood smoked
bacon and dry cured gammon.
Delicious pies are also freshly
made to order, using the shop’s
own steak, pork or chicken, with
quality vegetables, and there’s a
wide range of mouth-watering
cooked meats and traditional
cheeses to choose from.
Most of Hamilton’s meats are
sourced from Island farms for
ultimate traceability and high
quality standards.
The big surprise is that such
quality comes at competitive
prices. If you haven’t discovered
this dedicated family company yet,
it’s well worth checking out!
Find them across the Island at
67 Pyle Street and Daish Way,
Newport, in the High Street,
Wootton, and in the HIgh Street,
Cowes.
