OUT & ABOUT
India
A taste of
F
ollowing the success of last year’s
event, this October Robin Hill once
again presents the Festival of Light,
a stunning spectacle of creatively themed
light, colour, sound, and entertainment
inspired by the Hindu Festival of Diwali,
where “light triumphs over darkness”.
From October 3 -31, as darkness falls,
visitors can experience the lush colours,
flavours and magic of the Asian subcontinent set in Robin Hill’s glorious
autumnal ancient woodland as the
spectacular ‘electric woods’ captures the
spirit of the most popular festival in the
Indian calendar.
Wandering through the ‘electric woods’,
visitors can enjoy a spectacular sound &
light show which envelopes the Canopy
Skywalk (new for 2015) and incorporates
fire projectors and illuminated screens to
dramatic effect, creating an exciting walk
through experience.
The Indian poem, ‘The Ramayana’,
which celebrates the
victory of good over evil,
is creatively portrayed by
enchanting cinematic
shadow theatre in the
woodland amphitheatre
– and light installations
depicting elephants, stars
and peacocks can be
discovered throughout
the woods.
Back by popular
demand, visitors will
once again be able
to embrace the spirit
of Diwali by taking part in the
Colour Walk – a vividly coloured walk
through the otherwise dark woodland
glades where, armed with special ‘Holi’
powder, they will ward off evil spirits by
throwing burst of coloured powder into
the air (and onto each other!) All visitors
will receive a free pouch of brightly
coloured powder to throw whilst
on their quest.
The Diwali theme continues
across all refreshments with
an enhanced authentic Indian
menu, served in the magical
woodland ponds and in
our African Adventure Play
Area, where themed music
and decoration adds to the
ambience.
Plus every Saturday night,
Dr Dj who is an authentic Bollywood
Dj, will be playing a variety of great
Bollywood music all evening in the
Woodland Ponds.
A further programme of entertainment
will be confirmed shortly for October
half term (24 - 31) and is set to include
musical recitals, live Bollywood style
musical entertainment and creative
workshops for children.
Robin Hill’s electric woods Festival of
Light event is open every evening from
October 3 - 31, 5 - 9pm Sunday to Friday
and from 5 - 10pm on Saturdays. During
half term, October 24 - 31, Robin Hill
Country Park will be open from 10am 9pm (10am - 10pm on Saturdays).
