Remembering Evey
T
he Summer Ball took place recently
at Bourne Hall, organised by
Specsavers and Isle Drive Safe, who
formed a connection back in early January
this year. Rebecca Murphy approached
Neal Staley, father of Evey and founder of
the driving awareness charity, requesting
that Specsavers adopt the charity for the
year. Following the success of the ball,
both parties have agreed another year of
support and a second outing.
Just over 100 supporters arrived at
Bourne hall in their finery on the 19th,
greeted by bubbles and canapes whilst
a violinist provided the perfect musical
accompaniment. There was a fabulous
array of delicious homemade buffet food
and music into the night from Cornerstone.
The attendance and atmosphere was
amazing, and the venue dressed by

Evey’s favourite colour, purple.
Neal bravely shared his thoughts and

feelings on the importance of the work
Isle Drive Safe set out to do, which is to
ensure at least one life is spared from the
acts of dangerous and careless motorists.
Most poignant was the point he stated,
“we will probably never know the impact
we have, in reality”. His whole family got
behind the raffle along with Specsavers
and between them amassed a massive 55
quality prizes.
Their efforts were rewarded through
the raffle and silent auction to the tune
of £1,375! Specsavers also gifted back
£1,000 of the ticket sales after expenses.
Everyone put in so much effort, and the
meaning behind the event has meant
this special night will be lodged in the
memories of those who attended as
something they were proud to be part of.
Looking forward to next year!
