Implants
are for everybody!
Are you missing one or more teeth? Are you embarrassed by your smile?
Do you have difficulty eating certain foods or speaking clearly due to tooth loss?
Or do you suffer from the discomfort of ill-fitting dentures?
Then dental implants are the way forward!
So what are dental implants?
A dental implant is a screw usually
made from pure titanium used to replace
the root of a missing tooth. The implant
is placed into the jawbone beneath
the gums where it provides a solid
foundation for a crown, bridge or other
dental prosthesis such as an implant
retained denture.
So what are the advantages?
Implants are nothing new in dental
care and have been used to replace one,
several or all teeth in the mouth since the
mid 1960s. They look, feel and function
like your natural teeth and they allow you
to eat laugh and smile naturally.
Healthy neighbouring teeth do not
need to be ground down to support
dental implants.
Anchoring dental implants in the
jawbone stimulate bone growth,
arresting the on-going bone loss which
occurs after a tooth is extracted, ensures
an aesthetic result which helps to
maintain facial features.
Implant-retained dentures do not
require any adhesives to hold the
new teeth in place, and eliminate the
discomfort and insecurity of loose illfitting dentures.
There is no upper age limit for placing
dental implants and no absolute contraindications for placing dental implants.
A dental implant is now accepted as
the optimal solution for anyone who is
missing one or more teeth.
When several teeth are missing, separate
crowns on dental implants or a bridge
attached to two or more implants are the
options. When all teeth are missing in
either upper or lower or both jaws, a full
fixed bridge supported by dental implants
or an implant retained denture can be
done. The implant retained denture is
easily removed but will remain securely
anchored during function.
And who will
perform the
treatment?
Dr Amaanula (Manu)
Sattar owner/ principal
of Newport Dental &
Oral Health Studio, 97
High Street, Newport
is eminently qualified
to perform dental
implant treatment
and full mouth
rehabilitation. He is
based permanently
on the Isle of Wight
and all procedures
are performed in the
surgery. .
Dr Sattar has attained postgraduate
degrees in Germany, London, and South
Africa. He has attained two masters’
degrees in dentistry: Master Oral MedImplantology (IMC-University Munster,
Germany which provided training
specifically for dental implants; and
Master Clinical Dentistry (King’s College
University of London) which provided
training for advanced restorative work.
Patients can thus feel confident that
their treatment will be performed by a
clinician trained to the highest standards
at world class universities.
Dr Sattar has also received advanced
training in Lueven, Belgium in the use
of CT scans in computer guided implant
placement. This technique is especially
useful where severe atrophy of the
jawbone (loss of bone when teeth are
extracted) has occurred.
Computer
guided implant
placement allows
analysis of the
density and
volume of the
bone so that there
is no doubt as to
the best position
for the implants
and to ensure that
vital anatomical
structures such as
nerves and blood
vessels are not
damaged.
For those patients
who are anxious
about dental
treatment Dr Sattar
can also offer
treatment under sedation as he has two
qualifications in dental sedation: Post
Grad. Diploma Dentistry-Conscious
Sedation & Pain Control (University
of Western Cape-RSA) and Post Grad
Cert Sedation and Pain Management
(Eastman Dental Institute UCL-London)
Dr Sattar can demonstrate a large
portfolio of successfully completed
implant and prosthodontics cases.
