Harp festival for Ryde
An interesting new music festival
focusing on the harp will be taking
place at various venues in Ryde
during the last week in November.
The new event is entitled Harp
on Wight, and will consist of a
series of concerts and teaching
workshops featuring nationally
recognised harpists from both folk
and classical music.
The teaching course will open to
all levels of ability from beginners
to advanced, and to all age groups
from seven years upwards. The
festival will also include an
exhibition of harps by national
harp manufacturers, and a oneweek course where attendees will
be able to make their own harp is
also planned.
In addition, there will be a
competition for a new piece of
harp music inspired by the Isle
of Wight. The competition will be
divided into two age groups, under
16 and 16 and over, with a cash
prize for each.
The original idea and inspiration
for the festival came from
Annamaria Sacchini from
Michelangelo’s Restaurant in
Ryde who plays both harp and
sitar. Anna, who is the part of
the organising team for the
event, attended an International
Harp Festival last year in Dinan,
France, and thought that a similar
event would be well suited to
Ryde, and would be interesting
and artistically stimulating
for participants and audience
members. The only other UK Harp
Festival is held in Edinburgh in
April.
Electric spectacle to be
staged at Robin Hill
Enjoy the ambience of Robin Hill’s electric woods’
like never before with the Festival of Light, a
stunning spectacle of creatively themed light,
colour, sound, and entertainment inspired by the
Hindu Festival of Diwali where ‘light triumphs over
darkness’.
Until November 1, as darkness falls, visitors can
experience the lush colours, flavours and magic of
the Asian sub-continent set in Robin Hill’s glorious
autumnal ancient woodland as the spectacular
‘electric woods’ captures the spirit of the most
popular festival in the Indian calendar.
Saturday nights will feature extended opening
hours (6 - 11pm), live theatrical performances and
DJ sets, making this night in particular a special
'Festival of Light' celebration.
Robin Hill’s electric woods Festival of Light is open
every evening, 6 - 9.30pm Sunday to Friday, and
from 6 - 11pm on Saturdays. During half term, Oct
24 to Nov 2, Robin Hill opens from 10am.
