MOTORING
Nissan Pulsar
Test driven on the Island by Peter White
Nissan have made a return to the family
hatchback market for the first time in
eight years with the unveiling of the
Pulsar, and many will agree it’s not
before time.
The Pulsar, the first Nissan hatchback
since the Almera, is now available to see
and test drive at Staddlestones Nissan,
Ryde. I found it a smooth, compact car,
with sleek lines, and the emphasis is very
much on comfort. Once inside the cabin
I realised it was much roomier than I had
anticipated. The extended wheelbase
of 2.7 metres means that interior space
is maximised and rear passenger head
room and knee room is best in class.
The long wheelbase also makes the
car feel stable turning into corners and there are plenty of those on the
Island - and once into a bend the grip is
impressive and well controlled.
The Pulsar also incorporates Nissan’s
safety shield technologies, including
forward emergency braking and lane
departure warning. The high roof line
and large windows also ensure excellent
all-round visibility.
The Pulsar is available in four grades
- the top of the range Tekna which I
drove; the n-tec, the Acenta and the Visia.
Prices start from £15,995, and the Tekna,
which comes in at £20,345, has leather
seats, heated front seats, electric folding
mirrors and other safety features as
standard.
The six-speed petrol models have
combined MPG of 55.4 miles, and
CO2 emissions of 118 g/km, while the
six-speed manual diesel gives you 78.4
MPG combined and just 94 g/km CO2
emissions.
