Hyundai ix35
Test driven on the Island by Peter White
With more and more Island motorists
deciding to choose a crossover as their
choice of vehicle, it is appropriate that
Hyundai have revamped their already
popular ix35.
The changes have been fairly subtle,
but the specification tweaks have
helped produce a range that is bound to
impress. The engine, suspension system
and steering have all been improved to
make a firm, but comfortable ride, as
I discovered when I took the stylish SE
model, with its 17-inch alloy wheels, out
on the Island roads, courtesy of Wight

The ix35 has eye-catching clean, sleek
lines, while the interior is equally striking.
The cabin feels as good as it looks, with
its intuitive dashboard and instrument
dials, and the Premium and Premium
Panorama models come with the added
luxury of leather seats.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of a
crossover is that it has the feel of a 4x4,
but with much lower road tax costs and
better fuel consumption, and the ix35
is no exception. The cabin is particularly
roomy in the rear, making it a true
five-person carrier, and the boot space
is big enough to handle most families’
luggage. And with combined fuel figures
of just over 50mpg, it is extremely
economical to drive.
A comprehensive range of safety
features add to the overall quality of
the ix35, which also has many optional
extras, depending on the model you
choose. Both petrol and diesel versions,
and manual or automatic, are available,
with the entry level S model having an
OTR price of £17,000 up to the Premium
Panorama 4WD auto which comes in at
£28,015 OTR.
