BUSINESS LIFE Insure for unexpected with NFU Ratsey Bespoke Unit 1, Northwood Business Park, Cowes t. 07815 675018 e. [email protected] w. www.ratseybespokefurniture.co.uk D ata released from NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, has revealed that native horses are more likely to be involved in road traffic related accidents than warmbloods. NFU Mutual’s claims data shows that in 2013, native horses contributed to 67 per cent of vehicle or trailer related accidents compared to just 33 per cent of those involving warmbloods. John Heather, Branch Manager at NFU Mutual on the Isle of Wight, said: “Interestingly, warmbloods are considered highly strung compared to the more relaxed, docile nature of native horses. However, the average claims cost for these types of accidents involving a warmblood will be an estimated £2,000 while similar claims involving native horses will be in excess of £3,000.” Make sure you have adequate insurance in place for your horse and your horsebox. Make sure you are covered for public liability should your horse cause damage to someone else’s property. Keep all access routes securely padlocked to avoid your horse escaping and causing injury. When out riding on the road, always wear a high viz jacket to enable road users to spot you and your horse early, giving them time to slow down and take a wide berth. If you plan to go for a hack, consider riding your horse on public bridlepaths, away from cars and other vehicles. 126 www.visitilife.com Ratsey Bespoke A nother year gone by and more steady growth, says Luke Ratsey owner of Ratsey Bespoke Furniture. With plans in the works for the next year including a new website, which will be updated on a more regular basis, plans to attend Island and mainland exhibitions and hopes to expand the workshop to include a showroom and new finishing facilities in the next few years. Luke says the previous year has had some interesting projects including, the repair of an antique clock case; building a set of coffee tables from reclaimed floorboards; competition trophies and a large bespoke library to name a few. In the coming months Luke is hoping to have the time to build a few pieces purely to show the more artistic side of furniture ready for any exhibitions and show the extent of his talent and what can be achieved given the proper time and materials. If all goes according to schedule Luke is hoping to have another interesting year, with many targets to aim for and achieve. The year will be challenging but hopefully a great success overall and more security for his business in the long run.
