Farriers' event
proves a huge
success on Island
The annual shoeing and shoe making
competition, organised by local farrier Simon
Legge and held at Brickfields, proved a huge
success.
There was a full complement of entries –
33 in the Open competition and a further 35
apprentices, including two exchange students
from the United States and one young lady from
Norway, with 16 horses used during the two-day
event.
Ben Grange from Yorkshire was Open
champion, with Jonathan Nunn of Staffordshire
the reserve champion. Grant Watt from Sussex
was Apprentice champion for the second year
running, with Alex Jew from Yorkshire reserve
champion.
Norway’s Katinka Odegaard won the special
competition for making the best horse shoe of
any kind in just 20 minutes, and picked up £315
in prize money.
