Abbott is crowned king
of the Island ploughmen
Ruben Abbott displayed his skills to emerge champion
ploughman at the annual IW Ploughing Match, organised
by the IW Ploughing Association and held on land owned
by the Bevis family at Bachelors Farm, Apse Heath.
Jack Redfern, just 13 years old, won the young
competitors' class after just one practice session to underline
his enormous potential.
George Richards was reserve champion ploughman in the
popular competition that attracts the finest ploughmen
from across the Island, and has been an integral part of
the local calendar of events for more than 100 years. There
was also a demonstration of heavy horse ploughing for
spectators to enjoy.
