EQUESTRIAN
Farriers feel the heat
Farriers from all over the country
converged on the Brickfields Equestrian
Centre for a competition organised by
local farrier Simon Legge.
The event proved so popular that
Simon had to bring over extra anvils
from the mainland to accommodate the
entrants. In all, 40 qualified farriers and
30 apprentices showed their skills in six
different classes. Farriers travelled from
as far away as Yorkshire, Wales and
Staffordshire to take part.
Simon was delighted with the
response, saying: “The IW Farriery
Competition was my father’s idea
before his death three years ago and I
think from the enthusiastic response of
all those taking part that it will become
an annual event.”
Six times world champion farrier,
Grant Moon judged the main
competition and the judge of the
apprentice section was the England
farrier team manager, Nigel Fennell.
Refreshments included a hog roast
and there were demonstrations by the
IW Fire and Rescue Service of their
animal rescue equipment.
