EQUESTRIAN
Somerton
proves a stern test
Enthusiastic riders and their horses were
out in force to compete in the annual
Somerton Cross-country, generally
accepted as the premier competition of its
kind on the Island.
Around 100 horses took part in the
two-day event, which was being held
for the 24th successive year and proved
as popular as ever for competitors and
spectators alike.
The first day saw the dressage and
combined training at minimus, novice
and intermediate levels, with seven
cross-country classes taking place the
second day. Some riders took part in all
three elements while others just chose
to test their skills over the cross-country
course, which includes a water jump, and
stretches down from Northwood to the
River Medina.
