MOTORING
New Golf will be a big hit
The new stylish Volkswagen Golf
Cabriolet has arrived at Esplanade,
Newport and is set to make a big
impact. The new model is the first
convertible Golf since the MK IV,
and for many admirers maybe long
overdue.
The Golf is an iconic car and
attracts buyers of all ages, from keen
youngsters who have just passed their
test, to the older generation who like
the consistent comfort and all round
performance.
The MK VI Golf Cabriolet’s fabric
roof has an additional exterior skin,
as well as new window and door seals
and the heated rear windscreen is
integrated. Even with the roof down,
there is 250 litres of available space in
the boot.

in just 9.5 seconds when stationary.
And when the hood is down, the wind
deflector prevents against any wind
turbulence, enhancing comfort and
safety. When the well insulated roof is
up, the Golf Cabriolet is surprisingly
quiet with little or no road noise,
which is quite surprising on the Island.
The model I test drove was the
1.6-litre SE TDI BlueMotion with
CO2 emissions of 117g/km. Other
models include the 1.2-litre S TSI,
1.6-litre S TDI and the 1.4 –litre
GT TSI in manual or automatic
transmission. BlueMotion makes
driving more efficient by lowering fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions.
Inside, the multifunctional steering
wheel is fitted with controls to easily
use the audio system, mobile phone
and onboard computer, displaying fuel
consumption, speed, temperature and

much more. In the front there's plenty
of room with two highly adjustable,
supportive seats, while in the back
there is just about enough room for
two adults, but probably better suited
for children.
After driving the new Golf Cabriolet,
I can safely say I am very pleased
Volkswagen have brought this popular
car back onto the market – and I think
a lot of other people will be as well.
