has celebrated its second
anniversary – and has recently
taken on another experienced
professional. Back in January
Jo-Anne Ryan joined Dr Maire
Rhatigan. Jo had trained in
her native New Zealand as
a registered nurse, and after
nine years chose to work for
a plastic surgeon at a private
institute. She ran the cosmetic
side of the practice, dealing
mainly with dermal fillers, Botox
and light treatments. She also
assisted in theatre, and her
duties as nurse chaperone
to patients plainly honed her
skills in putting patients at
the Orchard at their ease.
“People can feel good under
the protective umbrella of our
joint experience,” Jo says. “We
really enjoy what we do, we’re
really into it! We try very hard to
do the best for our patients.”
Máire and Jo stress the
importance of looking after a
patient from start to finish with
a big emphasis at the clinic on
discretion as many find the first
visit a daunting prospect. “A lot
of it is also helping someone
to prepare how to wear their
new look. It’s about giving
them confidence” says Jo.
It’s also, she says, about
education. “Once people have
had a treatment it’s just as
important to look after their
skin. The Isle of Wight has a
large sailing community, it’s a
very outdoorsy place. So part
of a treatment is educating
patients about environmental
skin damage and protective
creams. Protection is the
soundest advice we can give”.

So, after
