COUNTRYSIDE, WILDLIFE & FARMING
Arreton Ploughing Match Saturday 15th September 2007
Passionate
about
Ploughing
As every listener to the
BBC’s long-running soap The
Archers knows, people get
passionate about ploughing.
And 55 competitors were
enthusiastic enough to take
on the challenge of the
108th Annual Ploughing
Match at Perreton Farm.
Ploughing veteran Glen
Draper put another notch
in his tractor when he
was declared champion
for the sixth time. He also
took the prizes for best
work with an international
tractor, best finish and
best crown. Not to be
outdone, Glen’s partner,
Karen Seath, took the prize
for best lady competitor
for the third time.
The conditions were not
easy. Lack of rain in the
previous weeks meant
the ground was hard.
Nevertheless, competitors
as young as 14, like Luke
Peachy of Rookley had
a go – he won a horse
brass, and Shaun Russell
of Shorwell , aged 15,
won the Ryland Short
Young Comp Class Cup.
