Beer
expertise
from a
Belgian
With its mass of flavours,
styles
and
colours,
we
discovered
at
Liberty’s
September Tasting Event that
speciality beer tasting can
be even more fun than wine
tasting - and it’s not really
much different.
To appreciate good quality speciality
beers, just like wine, you need to
use all your senses - ears, eyes,
nose and mouth - and that even
the type of glass you choose can
make a massive difference to your
drinking experience. To be fair,
Island Life - www.isleofwight.net
we were extremely lucky to be
educated by Marc Stroobandt,
a Master Beer Sommelier and
Belgian Beer Ambassador, and
let’s be honest, what the Belgians
don’t know about beer is probably
not worth knowing. By Marc’s
own admission, they can pretty
much make beer out of just about
anything and bars in Brussels can
be found carrying over 2000 types.
Unlike us Brits, they consider a
6% beer to be pretty lightweight
- absolute Heaven for all you beer
monsters out there! A final tip: if
you plan to go direct to Belgium,
just make sure you order your beer
‘cellar’ chilled.
