School shoes : what to look for

As a chiropractor who often works with children , I am frequently asked which shoes are best . While there isn ’ t one shoe that is perfect for all children , there are some general guidelines to follow . Children ’ s feet are different in structure to those of adults . Feet begin as cartilage and it isn ’ t until we reach the late teens that bones of the foot are fully developed , so restrictive or poorly-fitting shoes can cause structural and functional changes . For cerebral development , posture , strength and proprioception , it is important for feet , like hands , to be able to learn to ‘ feel ’ their way on a variety of surfaces . Ideally , the best way to do this would be to go entirely barefoot . Bare feet might also positively impact learning , according to studies in Bournemouth and Scandinavia – but of course bare feet might not always be practical when outdoors .

The shoe should have a wide toe box to give lots of wriggle room , and should be shaped like a child ’ s foot , which is much more triangular in shape than an adult ’ s . Even when children have shoes , you should encourage them to walk barefoot as much as possible . Children instinctively and naturally want to be barefoot . So whenever the ground is safe enough , let them roam as nature intended , and celebrate their barefoot instincts !’ All footwear is important , particularly school shoes as they are worn so often . Perfectly-shaped eyebrows are not always easy to achieve – especially first thing in the morning . So for anyone who pencils in their eyebrows every day , Microblading can be life-changing . In fact , it provides the perfect solution for thin and missing eyebrows - and the results don ’ t rub off ! Microblading is a form of permanent make-up that uses a handtool instead of a machine to create very natural-looking hairstrokes . Your bone structure , skin tone and hair colour are all carefully measured to determine the final shape and colour of your new brows . You ’ ll need two

Once completed , you can swim , play sports or sunbathe – all with complete confidence that your new brows will stay put . A colour refresher is recommended every 12-18 months to maintain that
