Country life A shop with a view Island countryside conservation charity the Island 2000 Trust has opened its first shop to get the countryside message to the high street. For over 20 years the Island 2000 Trust has created and cared for a variety of green spaces both in towns and countryside, right across the Island. Graham Biss, Island 2000 Chief Executive said: “We’ll be selling some great stock that encourages our supporters to embrace a love of the great outdoors. Gift to Nature hopes to surprise and delight customers with some wonderful things to buy.” The Gift to Nature Shop is selling both new and preloved products, focused on the outdoor, garden and countryside theme. There is a peaceful garden area where a great range of locally-sourced plants and garden goods can be purchased. Visit the shop at 12 Holyrood St, Newport PO30 5AU. Anybody wishing to volunteer at the shop should contact [email protected] Injured wildbirds Should you come across an injured Wild Bird while out and about, the small Island based charity called Wild Bird Aid can offer you advice or take in any casualties. Look at their website www.voigt-web.co.uk for contact telephone numbers and information. They are currently looking for an Islandwide network of volunteer drivers to pick up and drop off found injured wild birds, please contact them if you can assist. Naturezones celebrates it’s 10th anniversery Volunteers old and new held a tea party to celebrate 10 years of Naturezones. Founder Trustee Angela Hewitt, said “It has been a hectic 10 years converting an over improved field and a woodland inundated with sycamore trees into a nature reserve and education centre, brimming with native species plants. We are now busy fund-raising to gain funds for our new education building.” People donating over £50 will receive a specially created print of their little birds. Other fund-raising events will include woodland suppers for two and a Wild Food Fest. Public rights of way defects When you are out using the Public Rights of Way network and spot any defects or concerns please remember to contact the IWC Rights of Way Team with a good description of the location of the problem.
