Days out
All along the
River Bank
A two mile section of the eastern
Yar River and cycleway between
Sandown and Newchurch
became the site for a new outdoor
arts and crafts event on May Day
this year.
Called ‘All Along the River Bank’, the day
was the brainchild of the New Carnival
Company, who worked with a range of
countryside partners from the AONB’s (Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty) Down to The
Coast project to organise the day.
Hundreds of people of all ages turned
out to walk the Trail and enjoy traditional
Maypole and Morris dancing, spot giant
sculptures and soundscapes in the landscape
and to try their hand at traditional crafts such
as hurdle making, spinning and weaving.
