Catch it while you can
at The Boathouse
Sitting on one of the most stunning seafront locations
on the Island, The Boathouse seafood restaurant
at Steephill Cove has just thrown open its doors for
another summer of relaxing lunches, featuring fresh-
caught produce straight from the sea.
The relatively short, three-month
opening season makes The
Boathouse a highly sought-after
venue, so advance
booking is advisable
(though walk-ins are
accepted if there’s space).
With its rustic deck
looking directly out over
the English Channel,
the Boathouse has been
likened to eating places in
the Med, and its simple,
unpretentious menu
features local crab and
lobster, landed daily by
owner Vanessa Wheeler’s husband
Mark, either in Steephill Cove or
one mile east at Ventnor Haven.
The food is prepared by Vanessa
and the kitchen team, whose aim
is to “keep things simple” with
delicious fresh salads, home-made
dressings and fresh breads to
accompany their seafood, chicken,
steak and cheese dishes.
The restaurant’s signature dishes,
and by far the most popular,
are the Skipper’s Banquet and
Fisherman’s Platter, both of which
showcase the local crab
and lobster.
As well as raising their
four children, the busy
couple also run three
holiday cottages at
Steephill, as well as the
Cove Coffee Shop.
