Nature Reserve celebrates it’s 21st birthday Through the efforts of local people, Newtown Estuary was saved from the threat of a nuclear power station in the 1960s. They raised enough money to buy it for the National Trust and undertook wildlife surveys to prove to the authorities how special the place is. In recognition of its national importance for wildlife, Newtown Estuary was declared a National Nature Reserve in 1995. www.visitilife.com June/July 2016_MASTER .indd 79 79 14/06/2016 01:50
