Inside the Grand Pavilion a
cornucopia of flowers, plants and
vegetables and even one entry
recreating a WWI trench with biplanes
covered in green and red foliage
assaulted the eyes. Thailand’s entry
had gods, goddesses and temples
completely covered in flower heads.
Hillier’s had an amazing feature garden
in the centre that included a completely
white garden. Jerry Hall stopped by at
Burncoose Nursery’s stand.
Back outside Matt Keighley was
interviewed in his Hope on the Horizon
garden (Silver Gilt and The People’s
Choice): a representation of the process
which injured servicemen and women
go through on the road to recovery.
Matt’s brother is on his fifth tour in
Afghanistan so his garden had personal
experience behind its design. “I Facetime
him to show him the garden,” said Matt.
Nearby on a rooftop decking platform
there was barbecuing at the Really
Green Egg Company. Famous chefs were
trying their hand at cooking including
Raymond Blanc. Over in the artisan
gardens Eve Branson, mother of Sir
Richard and his daughter Holly arrived
to see the garden designed to celebrate
75 years of Kensington Roof Gardens
that Virgin own (Bronze).
When the Queen arrived she made her
way to Alan Titchmarsh’s garden. Alan
said: “She said it was great fun, which I
thought was rather nice.”
