Stunning design
Husband and wife team Chris and Lynda Sandell
have recently completed what they regard as one
of their biggest but most successful challenges in
the housing market.
The talented team at Sandell
Partnership have just completed the
remodelling of a 1960s bungalow
along Alverstone Road, Whippingham.
It comes hot on the heels of their
success last year in winning the
coveted RIBA new build awards
2011/2012 in the ‘best new build
on the Isle of Wight’ category for
a stunning contemporary detached
house on Cowes seafront.
The Cowes property is of exceptional
quality throughout. There is incredible
attention to detail from the wonderful
kitchen/dining area to the main lounge
area, and from there the external wall
is almost entirely glass and leads onto
the undercover patio area which is also
glass structured.
The immaculate standard continues
in every area in the property where
comfort and style are the centrepiece.
Chris Sandell said: “At the Sandell
Partnership, we work hard to create
unique and exciting designs for our
residential houses based around how
people live their lives in the 21st
century.
“This property started life around
1962 as a rather plain bungalow but

what attracted us to this site was that
it sits on a lovely double plot with the
most spectacular views over the River
Medina.
“We have designed the
accommodation to take advantage of
the southern orientation so that the
main living areas get lots of sun. There
is a large covered area for outside
entertaining which, on a sunny day,
can be opened up through sliding
doors into the spacious open plan
kitchen/dining area.
“We have designed all the rooms
to be large and spacious, even
the cloakroom, utility room and
bathrooms and we like to think
that the vaulted hallway makes
for an impressive entrance. We are
particularly happy with the kitchen/
dining area which has a big island
unit, tonnes of storage, and great
features such as pop up power points
and fantastic fridge drawers. We
have designed the kitchen/dining
area lighting system to be a bit
special too. We worked with Biggs
Talbot Architects, Cowans Structural
Engineers and a team of very talented
craftsmen.”
