Gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh was
the main guest when Thompson’s
Garden Centre, Newchurch, celebrated
20 years on the Island.
Owner Mrs Ursula Thompson
said: “The weekend was a great
success and with Alan joining us on
the Saturday afternoon it made our
celebrations very special. Early in the
year we started making plans to have

a celebratory weekend to mark the
anniversary. We invited Alan to join us
and we were thrilled when he agreed
to come.
“Five local schools were contacted
and agreed to take part in our
competition to design a banner for our
party weekend. We were amazed with
all the entries –nearly 400 pictures in
total from the schools, Newchurch,

Arreton and Binstead Primary, St
Georges School and Christ the King
College.
“Alan presented prizes to each school
and the overall winner and a second
‘highly commended’ design were made
into banners, many thanks to Biltmore
Printers.
“We are beginning to make links with
these schools to encourage children
