Local Schools Celebrate the Coast and
Country of the West Wight
With the help of WWLP, All Saints, St Saviours
and Shalfleet Schools have recently visited
a number of sites in the diverse West Wight.
Reception and Years one and two of All Saints
explored the aquarium at Fort Victoria and
carried out some rock pooling and beach art,
whilst Year two visited the Newtown Nature
reserve to do some bird watching. Years three
and four visited the bluebell woods at Mottistone
and learned how to identify an English bluebell
and understand the reasons for their decline.
Reception class also discovered mini beasts in
varying habitats at their school grounds while
St Saviours and Shalfleet schools went fossil
hunting at Fort Victoria. Friends of St Saviours
received a grant from the WWLP for various
environmental activities and these kicked off
with a day at Dinosaur Isle and various beach
activities at Freshwater Bay over a sunny May
weekend. www.wwlp.co.uk
