Summer is here and enjoying sunshine, good food and great company is high on the agenda. Soak up those summer rays and delicious al fresco dining at The Royal Hotel's Riviera Terrace. The Riviera Terrace is undoubtedly one of the best al fresco eating destinations on the island. Perched high on the cliff top, overlooking Ventnor Bay, the Terrace boasts stunning views across the unspoilt English Channel. And the island's unique micro-climate allows sub-tropical plants to flourish in abundance imparting a distinctly Mediterranean flavour. There are many eating options including picnic hampers, tiffin boxes and mezze sharing platters - guests will be able to pick and choose from a variety of dishes. The menu, created by Chef Alan Staley, features seafood landed directly from the beach below – making it the perfect setting for a lobster lunch. Picnics start from just £10 per person and require only two hours notice - which is fantastic as you can see what the weather is doing before booking your picnic. The Riviera Terrace will be open throughout the summer for picnics, lunch and evening mezze. For booking and reservations please call 01983 852186 or visit www.royalhoteliow.co.uk Two nights of opera are to be staged at the Garlic Farm, Newchurch next month. The Pop Up Opera Company will be performing their own version of Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in the superb setting of the Garlic Farm courtyard on Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8. The classic operatic comedy will be performed by soprano Clementine Lovell, her five singers and their pianoforte. There are two options for anyone who wants to attend the opera. Tom Honeyman Brown, general manager of the Garlic Farm explained: “People can come along just for the opera, and then if they want a picnic they can have it on the lawn afterwards. The cost for that is £20 per person. “Alternatively we are offering a champagne reception and dinner at The Farm afterwards for up to 50 people. It will fall in line with our recent Supper Club events which have been held monthly and proved very popular. The cost for that is £50 per person.” Tom continued: “The idea of the Pop Up Opera Company is to take opera to where it hasn’t been before, such as barns, boats, bars, churches, and now the Garlic Farm. We have such a lovely setting here that we hope this will be the first of several events we will be holding in future.” The opera will start at 6.0pm on each evening, and tickets can be purchased by calling 01983-865378 or at the Garlic Farm Shop and Cafe. www.visitislandlife.com 125
