Old Gaffers 2010
The 14th Old Gaffers Festival, sponsored by Wightlink and Yarmouth
Harbour Commissioners was certainly the best on record. Blessed
with brilliant weather, record attendance and unequalled non-stop
entertainment, there was fun for all the family.
The colourful and spectacular sight of the 120 plus Old Gaffers
both racing in the Solent and moored in the harbour was a sight to
behold.
The festival exploded into life when Rob da Bank joined in the fun
of this year's theme 'Buccaneers and Belles', and arrived to open the
festival on a pirate ship after being captured at sea.
Peter Kingston, the High Sheriff paid the pirates a ransome for his
release and so the festival was opened.
The evenings entertainment had Yarmouth rocking for two nights.
Rob da bank and two of his Bestival host bands, The Correspondents
and the Cuban Brothers, provided the best party Yarmouth ever had
on Friday and this was reproduced on Saturday with the evenings two
great tribute bands Abba Fever and The Silver Beatles.
All in all a fantastic three days of funpacked family fun.
