Concert success
at Calbourne
Two young musicians who have been awarded
William Smith International Performance
Scholarships, performed a concert at the All
Saints Church in Calbourne.
The concert, by oboist Emma Vallender and
pianist Ren Yuan was well attended and raised
more than £700 towards the running costs of
the church.
Emma was born on the Isle of Wight,
attended Ryde School, and toured Europe with
the school’s choir and orchestra. She began her
musical studies aged 11, under the tuition of
Wendy Banks and later Elizabeth Courtney.
She won a place at London’s Trinity College of
Music four years ago, and later moved to the
Royal College of Music.
Ren Yuan, a talented pianist from Dalian,
China, has performed in Japan, Russia and
the United States, and was awarded her
scholarship at the Royal College of Music in
London.
