Hayley on the road to success
Hayley Webster knows there are no
short-cuts to success. That is why she is
always prepared to work every minute
available in her bid to become one of
the country’s leading showjumpers.
The dedicated Island girl’s days start
early and finish late. She rides five to
eight horses each day, has never taken
time off and thrives on competing.
She began riding when she was just
three, starting out at Lake Farm with
Sue Holmes. Her first pony arrived
when she was 8yrs old, and since then
there has been no stopping her.
Hayley soon decided showjumping
was what she wanted to do, and had
regular lessons with Robert Booth. The
dedication soon paid off, when at the
age of 16 she was picked to represent
her country in Germany on her pony
Girls Knight.
She also qualified the same pony
twice for Horse of the Year Show in
the Junior Showjumper of the Year
class, and then spent five months in
France training with Johnny Harris,
taking two horses with her, gaining
invaluable experience competing in
French International competitions. She
did particularly well in the 1.20m and
1.30m classes on her little black horse
Pedro VIII, who although standing at
only 15.1hh, according to Hayley ‘has
the heart of a lion’.
On returning to England she spent
five months training with Karen Wade
and her partner Mark Finn, and during
this time they found her a new ride Two
Star who was placed third and ninth in
the young rider trials and has since won
over £2,000 in prize money. Contd..
