to run low, if, as predicted the
weather is glorious and more
Brits holiday here in the UK. So
it is important to order. “When
it’s sold out, it’s sold out – it’s
not like ordering goods from
Hong Kong!” Tina says. “You
can only get what is caught
and sometimes there is just not
enough.” The message is then,
don’t take it for granted. “If you
can’t get it today, then when you
can it will taste even better,” she
says.
So why doesn’t she just buy
in from elsewhere to make up
stocks when it runs low? “This
was tried as a one off years ago
and there was absolutely no
comparison to our own produce.
It’s far better to sell out and
retain our fabulous reputation
for quality, which is constantly
quoted as the best in the world.”

Start of new era at
Afton
Afton Park near Freshwater is
unique on the Island and its
individuality is reflected in its
numerous awards.
The Café was the first on
the Island to serve produce
from its own farm, and Afton’s
Farm Shop sells meat from the
farm that you won’t find in
any supermarket or hamburger
outlet: - it is from rare British
breeds long renowned for their
flavour and tenderness. The shop
sells produce from
its own kitchen,
as well as a wide
range of quality
Island food, art
and gifts. All of
this is surrounded
by peaceful,
beautiful gardens
and orchards
which were awarded Speciality
Garden of the Year by “Wight in
Bloom”.
Joint owner Michaela says:
“The newly refurbished food
and gift shop, expanded
kitchens, evening opening, the
Rare Breed sheep and calves and
a programme of summer events
are just the start of a whole new
era for the 30-year-old Afton
Park”.
